What Is the Minimum Order Quantity for Custom Watches?

Reviewed by Rajan MehtaLast reviewed 15 June 2026

MOQ is one of the most misunderstood numbers in the watch industry. It isn't a single number — it's a function of what you're customizing. Here's how it actually works.

Watch component and packaging samples prepared for quantity planning.

MOQ is per-model, not per-order

Manufacturers quote MOQ per model because the setup cost — dial artwork, printing plates, packaging plates, inspection — is paid once per model. Splitting quantities across models does not usually reduce it.

Why private-label quantities can be lower

For qualifying private-label designs—an existing model with your logo, dial colour, strap and packaging—the practical quantity may be lower than a fully custom project because there is less tooling and the component supply chain already exists. The exact quantity still needs supplier confirmation.

What needs volume

Fully custom cases, movement modifications and rigid packaging can each introduce separate supplier minimums. These requirements exist because tooling and component production need an economically viable run, so they must be confirmed against the design rather than assumed.

How to plan a first order

Design the smallest defensible first launch, not the ideal brand. One or two models at MOQ, with strong packaging and a clear channel plan, is a better launch than five models with weak packaging.

Frequently asked questions

Why does watch MOQ vary?+

Movement and component minimums, tooling, colour splits, customization, packaging and the manufacturing route determine the practical quantity.

Can one model be split across colours?+

Sometimes, but each dial, finish, strap or packaging variation may introduce its own supplier or setup requirement.
